After her first art lesson in the fifth grade, Ellen fell in love with art and knew it would always be a big part of her life, she had no idea it would eventually lead her into the field of Interior Design. The decision to pursue Interior Design came after a year off from school and a little bit of self-discovery, and now she could not imagine doing anything else. Ellen sees Interior Design, as a functional form of artwork, not only must your “piece” be visually appealing, it must meet the need of anyone occupying the space.   Ellen hopes to pursue a career in commercial interior design, with a strong interest in institutional facilities, but ultimately, her dream job would be to do renderings professionally.

8th Day Southern Bistro

On the 8th Day God made Fried Chicken, Shrimp and Grits, Stuffed Mushrooms, Pulled Pork, Sweet Potato Pie and of course Sweet Tea. When someone says that saying, “on 8th Day God made….” They are talking about something that is just that good, that it was heaven sent. Therefore, the design concept for the 8th Day Southern Bistro will be heavenly, sophisticated, southern, charming and modern.  To achieve this heavenly, sophisticated, southern, charming and modern feel, the design will include rich, “shimmery” textiles, as well as hints of Gold seen in the materials and wall coverings and a lot of white throughout. The flooring and surface materials will be made of rich and colorful stone such as marble and quartz. The design will leave people thinking that they just stepped into a southern heaven, the food will make them sure that they did.

Health and Wellness Center

The Design Concept for the new Pope Air Force Field Health and Wellness Center will aim to take a Humanitarian approach. The concept for the interior space of the center is based off a prayer labyrinth. A prayer labyrinth is a pattern or maze-style pathway designed for an active prayer experience. The Labyrinth is a metaphor for life, life is a journey, and we progress down the journey of life coming across several turns and switch blocks along the way but we still progress.  The individuals that the Pope Air Force Field Health and Wellness Center is designed for are people that have experienced a switch block in life and just need to find their way back to the path. Therefore, the first design decision will be a circular pathway made in the floor that guides patients throughout the space. The rest of the design decisions will be based off the labyrinth and the healing it is supposed to bring forward using comforting and natural elements throughout.
